Hailing from the State of New York, Ms. Jane West is a pianist and music scholar, holding degrees from Tufts University in Historical Musicology, and Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. She has also performed and studied at the Universität Mozarteum, in Salzburg, Austria as well as the Franz Liszt Society (Towarzystwo Im. Ferenca Liszta), in Wroclaw, Poland. An avid performer of 19th century repertoire, her recitals have been heard in the US, Poland, and Austria. Ms. West’s written articles on piano education have been published in the celebrated Clavier Companion and the MTNA Journal. As a music researcher, she presents regularly at conferences, and as an instructor and history lecturer, currently at the University of Tampa, she focuses on the students’ understanding of music at a broader level, as that is at the cornerstone of Ms. West’s philosophy. Teaching private piano for the past twelve years to students of all ages and abilities, she promotes both mastery of the keyboard and an informed musicianship by coupling the study of piano technique and repertoire with the literature’s historical narrative. As an arts administrator with a firm belief in the importance of music in the local community, Ms. West is dedicated to promoting young talent in concerts and cultivating an active music-making scene.
